2011 Texas Legislative Session
AIRC collaboratively led a 9-month statewide campaign that led to the defeat of over 80 anti-immigrant bills ranging from denying citizenship to U.S. born children of undocumented immigrants to requiring local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws.

Human and Civil Rights

In collaboration with the Border Network for Human Rights, AIRC established a Human Rights Organizing Program, the first of its kind in Austin. Over 30 immigrant community leaders have been trained to organize fellow community members through human and civil rights education.

Immigration Reform

AIRC co-founded the Reform Immigration for Texas Alliance (RITA) in 2009, a statewide, multi-sector network dedicated to building a unified voice for immigration reform. RITA partners have collaboratively led statewide campaigns to increase civic engagement in Texas and defeat state-based immigration policies.

Public Safety

Civic Engagement

AIRC joined forces with various community organizations to establish the East Austin Voter Mobilization Initiative in 2010, an unprecedented multi-ethnic effort to increase civic engagement in the lowest voter precincts in Travis County, where Austin is located. Our first campaign increased voter turn out by 16% and registered 465 new voters.
