Tonight, President Obama announced his executive action on immigration that would protect 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation by granting legal status. Along with that, few changes to the iniquitous Secure Communities program was announced.
According to Alan Gomez of USA Today, “Under the president’s order, the program will be re-named to the Priority Enforcement Program, or PEP, and more importantly, it will only notify ICE agents that someone with an immigration violation has been arrested. The ICE official will not respond if the person does not fit into one of the priority groups.”
